Tap & Modern
At Vestry we follow the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) syllabus for both genres.
Tap dance is an exciting rhythmical dance form, with many influences including Irish steeping and English clogging. It is often seen on screen and on stage in musicals. It has been described as a conversation with the feet through simple and complex rhythms.
It helps students develop rhythmical skills, coordination, spatial awareness and confidence. Students can progress through the grades becoming more skilful and increasing intricate rhythms and close work.
Modern dance is often seen on the stages of musical productions and is known for its theatrical qualities. The style uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns which all need strength and flexibility. ISTD Modern incorporates jazz, lyrical and contemporary dance styles into their examination syllabus. We enter children into exams where appropriate.
