Autumn Newsletter

 SEPTEMBER 2017

Welcome back and a warm welcome to all our new students! I hope everyone had a good summer. This term I am delighted to welcome Beth and Lisa who will be teaching with our Performers and Drama Faculty. Also, I am very pleased to welcome back Rebecca Hacet who will be joining us after half-term on a short term temporary basis in order to prepare for our shows. Many of you may remember Miss Rebecca who taught at Vestry previously.

Congratulations to all the students who took their RAD Ballet and ISTD Tap and Modern exams in the summer term. We had 160 entries overall and once again 100% pass rate. Also, many congratulations to the students who took their GCSE Dance exams this summer.

I must also say a huge well done to Anastasija Zavaruhina who successfully auditioned for The Royal Ballet School Junior Associate scheme and starts with them in September.

We had a very successful summer school, 58 children delighted parents with performances from the Pied Piper, Pirates of the Curry Bean and Return to the Forbidden Planet.

Following auditions in July, 22 students have been selected to perform in Hackney Empire’s pantomime 'Cinderella'. 16 students will perform in the child ensemble and 6 will be part of the Artist Development Program. Hackney Empire’s pantomime is one of the leading pantomimes in the country so this is an amazing opportunity for them. They will begin rehearsals in October and perform from 18th November to 31st December. If you are heading to a panto this year please choose Hackney and support our students. This is the fifth year that Vestry has worked with Hackney and I am very proud of the relationship and the opportunities it offers the students from this school.

The school’s Senior and Junior Showcases will take place next year at the Kenneth More Theatre in Ilford. The Senior show (approx. year 8 plus) will take place on Sunday 11th March. The Junior Showcase (approx. Reception to Year 7) will take place on Friday 30th March, Saturday 31st March and Sunday 1st April (Good Friday through to Easter Sunday). Students will be allocated one of these dates to perform towards the end of this term. We will keep you up-to-date with information about the shows over this term and next so please keep an eye out for this and check our website for updates. Our Tots will also have the opportunity to perform in their own show on Friday 30th March at the theatre.

You should have received your invoice for the Autumn term, if not, please let us know. Over the academic year 2017/2018 there will actually be 37/38 lessons, instead of the normal 36. This is in order to give children as much rehearsal time for the shows. It is therefore essential that all fees are paid as soon as possible to cover extra hall rates. If this should present a problem please let me know. Fees will still be based on a 36-week year and there is no extra charge for the additional lessons. There is no increase in fees again this year although hall rates in Walthamstow are steadily rising. For full details of our fees and terms and conditions please see the school website. If you have changed address or contact information please let us know so that we can update our records.

Dates for your diary:

Half-term Saturday 21st to Friday 27th October (no lesson on 21st, lessons NB as normal on 28th.

End of term Friday 15th December 2017.

Spring term starts on Saturday 6th January 2018. To keep up-to-date with school information please regularly check our website or follow us on Twitter.
